The winning project of the 2004 competition has recorded the results of the analysis carried out in recent years. Remains of the transformations which have happened on the western bank have come out: Renaissance and sixteenth century walls and subsequent banks more and more extended towards the water.
The consistency and the urban meaning of this monumental unit is offered again by the project. The basin is enlarged as far as the most ancient bank limits and the Darsena becomes again the big Milan port.
